Make cultural exchanges to establish the bridge of friendship

On July 21, some foreign friends from Netherlands and the United States came to our institute to communicate with us. And this activity was held in the classroom A7-306 and A7-307 at 6:30 p.m.

They are undergraduates from Netherlands. They came to visit Dalian for just a few days. When heard we were from Sichuan, the badly-hit province in the earthquake, and studying here, they decided to visit us.

We were so surprised and happy that they could have a class with us. In the special English lesson, by asking us some questions about Netherland, such as the population, the famous flower, the colors of national flag etc., they made us have a clear picture in our mind about Holland. Through this ice-breaking activity, all the students seemed to be more active and braver to speak in English.

Then, we were divided into some groups and talked to each other in English happily, even though our English was kind of awkward. They told us many things about their country and their dreams. What’s more, we also introduced some special things about China to them. For instance, in our group, one sweet girl of them communicated with us. We introduced Fuwa to her, our official mascots of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. We taught some Chinese to her as well, although it seemed to be very difficult to her, she still had a strong interest in it. We know that this is their first time being in China, but everyone of them likes China very much. At last, they taught us a simple but interesting song and some words in Dutch. We made a great fun from it.

They left a deep impression on me. They are friendly, open-minded. I hope they can have a nice journey in China.
I think this kind of communication is very good and necessary, because in my point of view, such international communication not only can provide us a good opportunity to make friends with students from different countries, but also is good for culture exchange. And the most important I believe is that all the people from every corner in this world would work together to promote a better and more peaceful world, just like the mission Olympic Games carries.

My friend Linyang said, "Through this communication activity, I find that you can speak English very well even though it is not your mother tongue. As a kind of language, English is very useful. The best way to learn it well is to practise as much as you can. The more you speak, the better you are." And he also realized that we shouldn't be shy when we speak English to the foreigners. We should let them know that Chinese students are also full of youthful spirit.
